Day by day program
Arrival day: we meet you in Jokkmokk, the little community on the Arctic Circle. The first overnight stay is at the charming hostel Åsgård in the centre of Jokkmokk, we eat dinner and we present the coming days.
Day 2: Breakfast, then it is time to complement your equipment and clothing for the tour in the mountains. Transfer to Stora Sjöfallet tourist station, where we eat lunch. We then continue to the mountain village of Ritsem, which lies at the end of the road in the Laponian World Heritage Area. Here we change the mode of transport to snowmobile, to cover the 30 km of roadless country to Kutjaure Sámi settlement. We move into the simple mountain cabins and make sure we get a fire going straight away so the cabins are warm by evening. Out here we have to make do without the modern conveniences of civilisation, so water is fetched from the lake at the cut-out hole in the ice, firewood is carried and food is cooked on a simple Calor gas stove and wood-heated stove. Dinner and planning for tomorrow.
Day 3: Breakfast. Out here on the mountain we are completely dependent on the day’s weather to help us decide what to do. The choices include skiing, ice-fishing on the lake, chopping firewood and practising mountain safety routines. We let the weather and our interests govern the choice of objectives for the day. Lunch, dinner and wood-heated sauna.
Day 4: Breakfast. We ski along the Seiber creek. We eat lunch on the mountain and return home in the afternoon. Dinner and wood-heated sauna.
Day 5: Breakfast, if possible we cross Lake Kutjaure on skis into Sarek National Park during the day, and eat lunch on the mountain. We return to our cabins in the afternoon. Dinner and wood-heated sauna.
Day 6: Breakfast, and today we set off back to the mountain village of Ritsem. We travel down to Saltoluokta mountain lodge where it is possible to have a shower and a sauna before dinner in the restaurant.
Departure day: Breakfast, departure to train station or airport.
